As a governmental entity, you may be eligible for a license granting you one frequency for GPS (data) transmissions within a restricted area of operation. The frequency assignment, the approved power and the radius of operation are solely at the discretion of the Frequency Coordinator. It is important to know: governmental frequency availability is limited, especially close to large metropolitan cities or congested areas in general. Sometimes, frequency availability is scarce and sometimes frequencies aren't available at all. The Frequency Coordinator makes every effort to find a suitable frequency for GPS operations that will not interfere with existing users. This is always a challenge. The best approach is to only request what you sincerely need! The less power and area of operation you request, the easier the task of finding a suitable frequency. Because the frequency assigned is tailored to each applicant's requirements, we do not know ahead what frequency, if any, you will receive. This means your equipment must be programmed after the frequency has been approved and filed with the FCC. Expect the process to take six to eight weeks at best. Generally, governmental frequencies are assigned in the 450 MHz range, but not always. Because of the complexity of governmental GPS applications, not every application is handled in the same manner. We, therefore, invite you to call us at 800-252-0529 to discuss your specific needs or please proceed to print our forms and mail or fax (317-813-4870) them to us. We'll call you and discuss the best way to proceed with your license request. Top of Page Proceed to GPS Governmental Forms
