About FCC Rulebooks
We receive many calls about FCC Rulebooks each day. Most callers have
received intimidating notices telling them to purchase an FCC Rulebook or suffer
sever penalties! There are other factors to consider... please read
the following brief explanation.
According to our conversations with various personnel at the FCC, a licensee
is required to "have knowledge of the rules governing the licensed station
class." They've further stated, "licensees must have access to
the rules and regulations."
There is no rule stating that licensee must posses a copy of the FCC
Rulebook. (Owning a rulebook would not assure the licensee has
knowledge of the rules anyway!)
Having "access" to the rules could be interpreted in many ways as
well. If you have internet access or a public library, you have access to
the rules!
Atlas does not take the FCC rules lightly. We understand and agree with
the FCC's position stating the licensee's responsibility for knowledge of the
rules governing use of a licensed radio system. Therefore, we recommend
each licensee either have easy access to the internet to read the rules
"on-line" or buy a copy of the rulebook directly from the
Government Printing Office. The "GPO" will sell direct to
you,
probably for a better price than you could get anywhere else!
If you would like to own a rulebook, contact the GPO at 202-512-1800.
Normally, you'll need to bring a little patience with you when you call. Also, keep in mind the rules are always changing. The
book you have today may be outdated tomorrow which is one of the reasons we further
recommend book marking our web site for a convenient link to
the rules
on-line!
