Time is running out for radio systems operating on frequencies with wide band emissions.

Even though the FCC January 13, 2004, deadline is no longer in force, it will still ultimately happen.

A new FCC rule established a deadline date for accepting applications for new licenses using frequencies with wide band emissions or applications to modify existing licenses using frequencies with wide band emissions. If you're thinking of getting a new license or making changes to your existing license, NOW is the time!

As time goes by, frequency coordinators will grow more reluctant to approve wide band operations.  Many are already becoming resistant to approving anything but narrow band emissions.  Waiting for the FCC to announce a new deadline date is NOT a good idea.  Wide band operations are very much first come, first served and the early bird will be first in line!

The FCC has established new deadline dates!

The FCC has resolved all the petitions for reconsideration of the wideband filing deadlines.

What about renewal of wide band licenses?

Existing wideband licenses continue to be renewable.  Individuals, businesses and corporations will be permitted to operate wide band equipment into the year 2013.  Governmental and public safety organizations will be permitted to operate, wide band equipment into the year 2013.
Everyone will have to convert to narrow band emissions by January 1, 2013!.

Why Act Now?

Q:    If I can renew my wide band license, and I've got ten years or more before I must change, why act now?

A:    You should "upgrade" your license now to be ahead of the stampede when it starts.  The MAIN thing ALL licensees should be doing right now is planning and preparing!  Adding narrow band emissions to your license is a good first step.  Once it's done, you may add and use narrow band equipment while continuing to use wide band equipment.  You'll be prepared to migrate from wide band equipment to narrow band equipment meeting the mandate with ease.
